Call for Artists

Two Large Murals at 2836 Third Ave, Bronx, NY 10455

Deadline to Apply: April 25, 2025

Project Overview

The Bronx Economic Development Corporation (BXEDC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering a vibrant and competitive economy in the Bronx. In 2018, BXEDC was awarded a grant from New York State’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) to fund commercial revitalization projects. As part of this effort, BXEDC is collaborating with the Third Avenue Business Improvement District (BID) to invest these funds into initiatives that enhance the neighborhood, including creating two large-scale murals at 2836 Third Ave, designed in partnership with the community. The 3rd Avenue Hub is one of the most dynamic and culturally rich areas in the Bronx, serving as a central hub for commerce, transit, and community life. Known simply as “The Hub,” this historic intersection has long been a gathering place where art, music, and local businesses reflect the South Bronx’s vibrant energy. As a cornerstone of the borough’s identity, it is essential to preserve and amplify the cultural expression that defines this space. This project seeks to revitalize the area through two community-driven murals on the north and south facing walls of 2836 Third Ave. Informed by local community members, these murals will celebrate the history, resilience, and artistic legacy of the South Bronx, fostering a sense of ownership among community members. Both murals must be completed by the end of August 2025.
